PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NO LONGER OFFERING OUR TASYE DU TERROIR EVENINGS; WE NOW OFFER DISCOVERY EVENINGS

If you can't make on of our wine tastings we have Taste du Terroir evenings as an alternative (or as well as !). Here we have a selection of local produce, wines and food all sourced from within 20km of our gites and produced by small family owned enterprises. Held early evening and in the garden so the children can play whilst mum and dad enjoy the local delicacies - not a meal, more of an aperitif, very relaxed and informal. You can chat to Chris about the wines and Wendy about the food or just chat to the other guests about anything at all.

The evening starts early at 6pm, be prompt or you'll miss the delicious Pineau des Charentaise made by Eric Cartaud a local vigneron. Served chilled it's a delicious start to the tasting. Along side this we serve a selection of goats cheeses made near the small local town of Aulnay . You can visit the Aulnay Sunday morning market and meet the producer of these cheeses who is there selling her produce every week.

At first everyone listens attentively but soon, after a drink or two, everyone starts to relax and chat among themselves - which is what we want. We continue to move around, serving more drinks - a local white wine followed by a superb red wine, explaining where they are made and by whom. You are free to ask Chris questions about these wines or wines in general or just chat about anything. It's meant to be a fun and relaxing evening. Along side the wines we have a superb Charentaise farci (like a vegetable paté) , Grillons, rillette and saucisse and saucisson (there's a difference ! )

Whilst the adults are chatting, eating and drinking, the children just run around and play (just make sure they are fed beforehand !) It all lasts around 1hr30, so finishes around 7.30pm. Although it's meant as an 'aperitif' rather than a meal, couples often have had enough to eat and simply carry on chatting and drinking well into the night - but that's up to you !
